Which is the best-selling console in history? A set of data published by Paint By Numbers helped us sort out the best-selling consoles in history. The data was visualized by U-Beach Big Data Ecology (WeChat public account: dkmeco), covering two categories of mainframe and handheld. The latest Sony PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Xbox One X are not included in the statistics.


10: Nintendo NES

Nintendo's full NES name, Nintendo Entertainment System, was released in 1983. You may not have heard this name, in fact, it is the European and American version of Nintendo ’s famous red and white machine FC (maybe more readers contact this host through the domestic copycat version of Xiaobawang), and correspondingly, some people call it NES "Grey machine".

NES has sold more than 61.9 million units so far, this console can be said to have established Nintendo's position in the gaming industry. One of the best-selling games on the NES platform was Super Mario Bros., which sold 40.2 million copies.

Interestingly, its successor, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, was released in 1990, ranking behind the NES with 49.1 million units sold.


9: Microsoft Xbox 360

Microsoft recently announced the most powerful Xbox One X, and their performance on this list may be a little disappointing. Of the top ten, Xbox only made this appearance.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 was released in 2005 as the second host of the Microsoft family. At that time, its competitors were Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii. Ultimately, the Xbox 360 sold 80 million units.

The best-selling games on Microsoft's Xbox 360 are Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto V, which sold 15.6 million and 15 million copies, respectively.


8: Sony PSP

The full name of Sony PSP is PlayStation Portable, which is Sony ’s handheld game console. It was released in 2004, and subsequently introduced improved dosage forms such as PSP 2000, PSP 3000, and PSP Go in 2007, 2008, and 2009. PS Vita did not make the list.

In total, Sony PSP sold more than 80 million units, of which the best-selling game was "Monster Hunter P3", which sold a total of 4.8 million copies, and players said that they bought PSP just to play "Monster Hunter P3".


7: Sony PS3

The full name of PS3 is PlayStation 3, which was released in 2006, which is one year slower than the rival Xbox 360, with cumulative sales exceeding 80 million units. It used Blu-ray discs as its main storage medium, and later introduced improved models PS3 Slim and Super Slim PlayStation 3 in 2009 and 2012, respectively.

The best-selling game on the PS3 platform is Grand Theft Auto V, with 14 million copies sold.


6: Nintendo GBA

Nintendo GBA stands for Game Boy Advance. It was released in 2001. As the heir to Game Boy and Game Boy Color, it is also compatible with the above two models of games. In 2003, it launched the follow-up model GBA SP that supports folding and has a screen backlight. In 2005, GBC (Game Boy Micro) was launched. In the end, GBA sold 81.5 million units.

The most popular game on the GBA platform was the extremely popular "Pokemon Ruby Sapphire" that year, which sold a total of 16 million copies.
